What does a GFCI plug and/or breaker do?
GFCI stands for ground fault circuit interrupter, and is designed to protect you and your family against hazardous shock, electrocution or fire. GFCI plugs can be built into your wall outlets or your circuit panel (breaker). Installing a GFCI breaker provides ground fault circuit protection. By monitoring the flow of current, GFCI plugs and breakers can detect a ground fault and shut down the circuit in order to protect you.
Where do I need to have GFCI plugs in my house?
You need to have GFCI protected plugs within 6 feet of a sink and any outdoor plugs need to also be GFCI. You also need GFCI plugs in your bathroom and on the kitchen countertop as well as in the garage (with some exceptions).
What is the best and most energy-efficient lighting for my home?
LED is considered the most energy efficient lighting available by far. Although the bulb costs can still be somewhat high, pricing for LED lighting products has continued to decrease over the years. Using dimmer switches in combination with LED can also help to reduce energy while creating a unique and comfortable ambiance in your room.
How can I be sure if the electrician I hire is knowledgeable?
Hiring a good electrician or contractor in general can be a challenge. Whether you’re adding an outlet, installing a ceiling fan or chandelier, or updating or replacing a circuit breaker; you need a knowledgeable and experienced electrician to make sure the proper safety measures are taken and installations are done right the first time. Doing basic research on costs and checking online reviews are indeed helpful, but how can you take it a step further? Check their credentials. Is your professional licensed, bonded and insured? Will his/her company stand behind any challenge or mishap? Blue Apple Electric requires employees are required to pass a comprehensive drug test and background check to ensure total and complete peace of mind to our valued customers.
